About Project
The campaign "Shining Forest, Singing Forest" was created as a response to increasingly dramatic climate changes that have caused extreme droughts and floods, high temperatures and cold winters, ice melting on the North Pole, partly extinction of the Amazon forests, which all resulted in the planet's biodiversity changes.
Climate changes have caused arable land reduction, water shortages, increase in food prices and the need for biofuels that have mostly affected poor population. Climate changes have primarily affected the health of people all over the world!
Frequent climate changes are the reason why Fund Ecotopia launched a campaign "Shining Forest, Singing Forest" in the National Park Tara on May 22, 2009, on the International Biodiversity Day.
The campaign's first-stage objective is to have 10 hectares of forest on the Tara Mountain reconstructed in the next two years, in the area that has been destroyed by a mini tornado a few years ago. The devastated area would be replanted with 18,000 seedlings, of which 10,000 of spruce and 8,000 of fir for the sake of sustaining the natural balance of NP Tara.
The board "Ecotopia Forest - PLANTING" was symbolically revealed on May 22, by Ecotopia's activists: President of the Fund Srdja Popovic, actress Srna Lango and TV host Ivan Zeljkovic, together with the management of the National Park Tara, municipality Bajina Basta and representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning. On that occasion, 10 fir and spruce trees were symbolically planted.
The process of planting and maintaining of Tara forest will be financed from the sale of Muniments and labels "Forest Shining, Forest Singing". Purchasing these muniments, the owners of private vehicles provide planting and maintenance of two fir or spruce trees for one year, and thus contribute to the fight for a cleaner and healthier Serbia!
The muniments are legally protected and printed at the National Institute for Manufacturing Serbian Banknotes. The price of muniments is 500 dinars for individuals and 1000 dinars for companies. Along with the muniment, a buyer receives a self-adhesive car-sticker with the campaign’s message "Polluted - Planted"!
Telenor Company in Fight against Climate Changes
Telenor Company has helped the Fund Ecotopia's campaign "Shining Forest, Singing Forest" by purchasing 4000 muniments and organizing forestation of the National Park Tara.
On October 31, 2009 around 30 employees of this company planted 200 seedlings in the area known as "Pozariste".
On the occasion of the continuation of the cooperation between Telenor and the first Serbian environmental fund Ecotopia, all Telenor's customers who were signing contracts from 5 to 12 November received the muniment as evidence that they supported the action of forestation in the National Park Tara. In this way, new users have been given an opportunity to "adopt" a tree and provide for its one-year care.
The cooperation with the Fund has also been marked by the continuation of Recycling Used Mobile Phones action. New clients who brought used mobile phones when signing contracts were given special offers.
The successful cooperation between Telenor and the Fund Ecotopia has been marked at Telenor shop in Knez Mihailova 24. On that occasion, the attendees were addressed by the Assistant of the Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning - Rade Momirov, President of the Fund Ecotopia - Srdja Popovic and Executive Sales and Marketing Director at Telenor - Marek Slacik.
The Assistant of the Minister of Environment said that "the ministry supports any action that contributes to the preservation of nature". He added that "creation and expansion of forest ecosystems is just one of many solutions to the problem of climate change that ought to be an imperative. Our ministry conducts various programs on Tara, by merging the work of various environmental organizations, which contributes to the increasing environmental awareness of all citizens of the Republic of Serbia".
President of the Assembly of the Fund Ecotopia, Srdja Popovic, said that "together with the National Park Tara, the Institute for Nature Protection of Serbia and with large companies, the fund announced the fight against climate changes in the campaign "Shining Forest, Singing Forest". Our goal is to enable every citizen of Serbia to adopt, foster and maintain their tree, and thus redeem their personal "carbon footprint" created daily, whenever we use a mobile phone or car". "Telenor Company is the first partner in this serious endeavor. The first 4000 planted trees in the NP Tara are an excellent beginning of our mission to combat climate change", he added.
The partnership between Ecotopia Fund and Telenor will be continued in 2010.
